Academic Library of Tallinn University (Estonian: Tallinna Ülikooli Akadeemiline Raamatukogu) is one of the most comprehensive research libraries of Estonia in all fields of knowledge, except construction and agriculture.

The library was founded in April 1946 as the Central Library of the Estonian Academy of Sciences. Although the library is quite young, the Library of St. Olaf's Church (founded in 1552) makes up the oldest part of the collections. The library holds over 2.5 million items. The number of the readers amounts to nearly 50,000. During the years the library has gone through several administrative changes. It is acting as a part of Tallinn University administrative structure as of 2003.

The main building of the library is situated in the center of Tallinn, on Rävala puiestee 10. The library has smaller branches by the different colleges of the Tallinn University, including the branches in Haapsalu and Rakvere.

The modernist design of the main building was created by architects Uno Tölpus and Paul Madalik in 1963. The building is under protection as architectural heritage.

The Archival Library (AL) of Estonian Literary Museum (ELM) was founded on April 14, 1909 as an archival collection of the publications in Estonian.

AL collects all publications in Estonian and in other languages that have been issued in Estonia, also publications issued elsewhere concerning the cultural history of the Baltic region and Finno-Ugric peoples and Estonian exile literature - books, periodicals, maps, music scores, pamphlets, etc. The AL comprises the following collections: a collection of books in the Estonian language, the Baltic collection, the periodical collection, map collection, the pamphlet collection, 32 memorial collections, the collection of the Learned Estonian Society.
The total amount of the collection is more than 1 million 21 000 thousand registration units.

The AL has organized several conferences and exhibitions and has been participating in compiling the Estonian national bibliography and databases: www.ester.ee, https://artiklid.elnet.ee/, ISIK database of pseudonyms, GRAFO. AL has its own digital library, KIVIKE. KIVIKE is developed as the general digital repository of Estonian Literary Museum, BIBIS general analytical retrospective bibliography of Estonian periodicals is compiled of the periodicals issued in Estonia in 1930s.

The Art Museum of Estonia Library is a public library oriented towards art and culture in general. The library's holdings focus on European painting, sculpture and graphic art; decorative arts; costume and fashion; architecture; photography; contemporary art and art theory. Reflecting the museums collection our library holds a large collection of Dutch, Flemish and Baltic-German art books.

The Library was founded in 1924 and it has been in its present location Weizenbergi 34 / Valge 1 since 2006. The library holds about 50000 books.

Estonian Academy of Arts Library, founded in 1914, is a specialised university library. It acquires reference books, scientific literature and textbooks. The areas of activity include art, architecture, design, media art, art history, art criticism, cultural heritage, restoration, semiotics, culture, theatre, photo and cinema art, and the history of religion. Students, faculty members, employees, graduates, art teachers, students at other schools of higher education and other people interested in art can register as readers.
 
Eesti Pank. Library  Eesti Pank. Library

Eesti Pank. Library contains more than 7,000 documents on economics and finance, mostly in English. Promotion of economics and economic education is an important part of the bank’s research activities. Master’s and doctoral level students can use the Eesti Pank library, when the needed documents are not readily available in Estonian research libraries. Books are obtained via inter-library loan or made available at the bank.

The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Library  The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Library

The Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Library is the largest music library in Estonia. In the library collection there are about 200 000 items. Library acquisitions include music and theatre books, materials on music education and cultural management specialties, sheet music, sound and video recordings and electronic databases. The library archive contains manuscripts of works and treatises by outstanding Estonian composers, unique audio recordings and printed editions, rare scores and books.

The EAMT Library was founded in 1935 and moved to its present location Tatari 13 in 1999 in connection with the completion of a new building.

The library is open to its approximately 2,800 users six days a week - a total of 56 hours a week.

The Library of Estonian Academy of Security Sciences is a specialized library, which serves the membership of the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences (EASS) and the staff of cooperation partners, provides publications which are necessary for study and research work and access to information resources. The Library has 4 service points: the Library of EASS (Tallinn), The Library of the Police and Border Guard College of the EASS (Muraste), The Library of the Paikuse Police School of the Police and Border Guard College of the EASS (Paikuse) and The Library of the Rescue School of the Rescue College of the EASS (Väike-Maarja).

Alltogether there are about 70 000 items in the collection (incl. over 3000 final thesis of the alumni of EASS).

Estonian National Museum Library   Estonian National Museum Library

The Library of the Estonian National Museum was founded in 1923 and served in early days as a reference collection of the Ethnographic Department of the museum.

The library specialises in ethnology, covering selectively related fields such as sociology, cultural studies, folkloristics, archaeology, religious issues, linguistics, history, etc., with particular emphasis on the Finno-Ugric peoples.

The holdings of ca 50,000 volumes include ethnological and museological studies and reports, professional journals, dissertations, maps and pamphlets. In recent years also the collections of the Estonian Postal Museum Library and Tartumaa County Museum Library have been incorporated to the main library.

We serve mainly the scholarly community but general public is also welcome for reference and research.
 
Library of Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces  Library of Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces

Library of Headquarters of the Estonian Defence Forces was established in 2004. We are not a public library, our patrons can be staff of Estonian Defence Forces, Ministry of Defence and Defence League. Our library collection contains materials from very different science - military, law, history, economics.

Estonian Defence Forces has libraries in every unit and in Estonian National Defence College and Library of Headquarters has central library function.
 
Library of Estonian University of Life Sciences   Library of Estonian University of Life Sciences

The Library of the Estonian University of Life Sciences (established in 1952) is a research library that provides necessary information in the field of bioeconomy. We collect and mediate information to support the competitiveness of our university and the development of a knowledge-based society.

The library is located on the university campus in the main building of EMU.

In the library collection there are over a quarter of a million books, the oldest one from 1613. Library has about 6000 readers.
The library maintains the open access digital archive EMU DSpace, which collects and provides access to the research outputs created by members of the Estonian University of Life Sciences.

Library of the National Archives of Estonia   Library of the National Archives of Estonia

Library of the National Archives of Estonia consists of the libraries situating in Tartu and Tallinn. It is a special library serving all the interested ones in the field of history as well as the employees of the National Archives. Books can be read in the research rooms and ordered via remote loan between two towns. Also, the digital copies may easily be ordered.

Library in Tartu includes the period before the birth of the Republic of Estonia (i.e before the year 1918). By today, the collections have grown to over 200,000 units, including books, periodicals, maps, manuscripts, prints, engravings, etc. In 2017, a remaining part of the KGB library and partially also the former party archive library were transferred from Tallinn to Tartu. Approximately 40% of the collections of Tartu library have been described in the Online Catalogue.

Library in Tallinn includes mostly the period starting from the birth of the Republic of Estonia (i.e since the year 1918). The collections cover ca 70,000 units, most of these are available in the Online Catalogue.

There are many historical publications (chronicles, church, educational, cultural, art and architectural history, the history of Baltic provinces), genealogical and heraldry-related prints as well as reference books within the library. In addition, fields of history, archives' management, law, military science, statistics, economy have been covered, as well as a selection of departmental editions with minor distribution can be found in the library of the National Archives.

The National Library of Estonias   The National Library of Estonia

The National Library of Estonia (in Estonian: Eesti Rahvusraamatukogu) is a national public institution in Estonia, which operates pursuant to the National Library of Estonia Act. It was established as the parliamentary library of Estonia on December 21, 1918. The primary collection of the library was about 2000 titles necessary for lawmaking and government.

The National Library of Estonia (NLE) collects, preserves and makes accessibile items published about Estonia and in Estonia. The library registers entire statistics of Estonia national bibliography and print productions, and issues international standard numbers. The NLE has the most comprehensive collection of items published in Estonia.

Today, the National Library of Estonia is a national and parlamentary and research library, also a professional developement and cultural centre. There are more than 3,4 million items in the library collections. Library has over 60 000 registered users, with more than 311 000 library visits each year.

Repository Library of Estonia   Repository Library of Estonia

The Repository Library of Estonia was founded on January 1st, 1995 on the basis of some departments of the National Library of Estonia.
The library has three basic functions divided by its departments:
  • Repository department receives, stores and makes accessible low-use materials which bear scientific, cultural or historical value. It is a repository to be shared by all libraries in Estonia as the most economical way of storing library materials (books, newspapers, magazines). Only non-Estonian foreign materials are stored in the repository stock. Reader service takes place at the reading room as well as through the inter-library lending, if needed the articles are scanned and sent to the readers via e-mail.
  • Redistribution department holds the stock where other libraries, publishers and private persons can hand over all kinds of printed materials unnecessary for them and from where all the libraries can acquire the materials needed for their stock.
  • Estonian Library for the Blind (merged in 2004) serves visually impaired and other print disabled people. It collects and stores audio, Braille, tactile and electronic books and films with audio description, as well as printed materials on the activity, rehabilitation and teaching of the visually impaired people. It also produces Braille and audio materials. In April 2012 the Estonian Library for the Blind launched Veebiraamatukogu (Web Library) to its patrons for downloading and streaming audio books through the Internet.
All the services of the Estonian Repository Library are free of charge.
 
Tallinn Central Library   Tallinn Central Library

Tallinn Central Library is a public library that serves all the inhabitants and visitors of Tallinn.*

Tallinn Central Library opened its doors to the public on the 27^th of October 1907. The first branch library was opened in 1926 and a network of branch libraries started to spread through Tallinn. Today Tallinn Central Library has 17 branch libraries and a mobile library Katarina Jee.

Tallinn Central Library is open to everyone, offering access to information, knowledge, skills and culture. We offer and develop library services according to the needs of our users, helping to increase people's activity in community, helping them to be informed and enabling them to be worthy members of society. Our mission is to promote lifelong learning, to increase joy of reading in all generations, to offer inspiration and experiences, to create opportunities of self-expression and -development and communicating with each other and with the world.

Our library services include home lending service (inc e-book readers, sports equipment), in-house use (inc graphic tablets), reference service, computer use, patron training, home delivery service, literature events etc. E-services: e-library ELLU (e-book lending and reading environment for reading e-books in Estonian), My ESTER, Ask a librarian, Computer Booking System, Children's page, Music page, Diary of the Music Department, virtual exhibitions etc.

*In 2013* we had 72 600 registered readers who visited our libraries 1 060 401 times and borrowed home 1 767 000 documents. Readers only need one unifiedlibrary card or their Estonian ID-card/recidence permit card (http://www.keskraamatukogu.ee/visitors-card) to use our services in any of our departments or branches.
 
Tallinn Health Care College Library   Tallinn Health Care College Library

Tallinn Health Care College Library is a professional library which collects, maintains and makes health care publications and e-resources available for its users.

The Library develops its collections according to the specialities taught at the Tallinn Health Care College: nurse, midwife, assistant pharmacist, optometrist, dental technician, dental assistent, occupational therapist, health promotion, technician of emergency medicine, caregiver, and babysitter. The Library carries out user trainings, offers personal advising, and organizes thematic expositions.

 
TTK University of Applied Sciences Library   TTK University of Applied Sciences Library

TTK University of Applied Sciences Library (TTK UASL) founded in 1944, is a specialized library that serves mainly all members of the university. The main building of the library is situated in the center of Tallinn. The secound library is located in Mõdriku and serves also a limited amount of the public.

The task of the library is primarily to serve the members of the university and to ensure the availability of documents and electronic resources necessary for study, research and development work.

TTK UASL collections mainly consists literature supporting curriculas such areas as Architecture, Civil Engineering, Logistics, Technology, Engineering, Circular Economy, Service Economy. Library has about 51 676 items and 2751 registered users.

The Tallinn University of Technology Library   Tallinn University of Technology Library (TalTech)

Tallinn University of Technology Library (founded in 1919) is the university's library, while also serving the role of a research library and the public central technical library of Estonia.

The library aims to provide information for academic, research and development activities. As a public scientific library, public service to readers outside TalTech is also offered according to the scope of fields.

TalTech Library at its current location was opened in 2009. With its open space and group- and individual study rooms, the library offers many opportunities for students and academic staff to study, communicate and socialize. The library recently opened its redesigned 24/7 study room which expands the possibilities of working and studying even more.

Since March 1, 2020, TalTech Library has new branches at Kopli (in Tallinn) and in Kuressaare. These libraries serve mainly Estonian Maritime Academy students but are open to other TalTech members as well.

Tartu Public Library   Tartu Public Library

Tartu Public Library is an active and innovative library, highly visible both on Estonian cultural and library landscape. It was founded in 1913. It has a central library, four branch libraries, a stationary circulation unit and home service. There are about a hundred people working at the library.

Tartu Public Library is an information centre, which main task is to offer our users information via all modern media. In 2019 the library had more than 35 000 registered users and over 2000 visits a day. The library offers cultural events and entertainment to the users, organizing book and art exhibitions, concerts, meetings with writers, fairy tale mornings for children, monthly book cafe, annual events: seminar on original Estonian children's literature, literary festival Prima Vista, Fairy tale day, Nordic library week, etc.
 
Tartu University Library  Tartu University Library (established in 1802) is the oldest and biggest continuously working library in Estonia.

Being the most universal Estonian research library, its collections contain materials on all fields of science taught at the university. In the collections there are books, journals, audio-video materials, maps, works of art, manuscripts, leaflets, pamphlets and so on. Library collections are about 3,8 million items.

Library has large and valuable collections of old publications containing unique scientific materials from the 17th-19th centuries in many languages. The oldest manuscripts date back to the 11th century.

Tartu University Library is the largest centre of scientific information in Estonia. Our users have access to more than 17 000 scientific e-journals. The usage of scientific information is biggest in Tartu, even compared to many other countries.

The digitized collections are comprised of rare books, manuscripts, photos, old dissertations, Estonian newspapers - all these collections can be used all over the world without any fee. Dissertations defended at Tartu since 2002 are available in full-text versions in digital repository of Tartu University Library http://dspace.utlib.ee. Old dissertations are being digitized gradually.

Collection of audio-visual materials is growing permanently - everything recorded at the university (lectures, seminars, conferences, concerts etc) ends up at the library, as well as digitised versions of old films made in Tartu (the oldest 1932).
