Privacy Information

Your privacy is important to us

1 What type of information do we collect?

1.1 Personal information

Online catalogue ESTER can be used without submitting any personal information. In order to use the personalised services of the online catalogue, you have to register as user of one of the libraries using the online catalogue ESTER. Each registered user will get a personal user account My ESTER which enables them to view the checkouts, renew due dates, request or sign up for items, save records to lists, rate publications, etc. Personal reading history and saved lists can be viewed only by the users themselves.

When registering as user, the personal information collected differs by libraries. To learn more about collecting, using and storing this information, please contact your library.

The personal information of users is available solely to employees authorised by the libraries who use the online catalogue ESTER. The collected information is not communicated to third persons unless otherwise specified in legislation.

Personal information is processed for library purposes also in cases where the person in question appears in the online catalogue in connection with a work recorded in the catalogue (this person is the author, designer, editor, etc., or the work is about this person). Along with the person’s name, also other data are collected (e.g birth and death dates, occupation or field of activity) that are published in the work or have become available to the library by other means via open sources. The metadata collected for library purposes are stored forever and displayed in the online catalogue ESTER without asking prior permission.

1.2 Technical information

Info relating to each visit to the online catalogue is saved for further analysis of the use of the catalogue. We use cookies and internal logs of the web server.

It is possible to delete or block cookies in your computer or mobile device but then you will not be able to use all functions of the catalogue.

The following data will be logged automatically:

  • IP-address,
  • type of the browser used,
  • information on the pages visited in the online catalogue ESTER,
  • information on the website via which the visitor has reached the online catalogue,
  • time of visiting the online catalogue, etc.

2 How do we use the information we collect?

Personal information is used for identifying users when providing library services, delivering notices related to loans (e.g reminders and notifications of the arrival of items), answering enquiries via email, and for statistical purposes. With any questions, or a wish to waive email notifications, please contact the library.

Statistical information on the use of the online catalogue ESTER is used for developing the catalogue and improving its usability.

3 Modifying information

Contact information can be modified by logging in to your personal user account My ESTER or by contacting the library.

To modify other personal information, please contact the library.
